One of the best ways to slow down the aging process is to take good care of your skin. We’ve recently been introduced to Linda’s Dewberry Lotion (www.dewberrylotion.com) that is a pampering solution for keeping hands, face and body well hydrated and looking refreshed.

A little Dewberry goes a long way toward keeping skin soft and supple, and this lotion absorbs into the skin quickly and completely with minimal fragrance. This cruelty-free formula contains no mineral oils or parabens, so it’s perfect for sensitive skin. This is a quality skincare lotion to keep handy in your desk drawer for use throughout the day, or keep it in the bathroom to apply to slightly damp skin right out of the shower. Hyaluronan and Beta Glucan are among the 100% natural ingredients that provide deep moisture retention. The 4-oz. pump bottle makes the perfect stocking stuffer for the holiday season!

One of the ugly realities of the cosmetic and beauty product business is the animal testing that often goes on behind the scenes. But now authors Sunny Subramanian and Chrystle Fiedler offer women a way to create their very own animal-kind beauty products in their new book, “The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty” (www.robertrose.ca).

This nicely illustrated, easy to follow guide presents 125 recipes for makeup, skin and hair products guaranteed to be vegan, glutan-free and cruelty free, using such natural ingredients as strawberries, almond milk, coconut oil, rose water and aloe gel. In addition to the recipes, there’s a very informative section in the front of the book on the ingredients you should and should not expect to use on your body, in addition to a great resource guide for ingredients in the back.  Now you  can look and feel beautiful with a clear conscience wearing your very own beauty product creations!

Once you try the Dr. Cool Chill Sports Towel, (www.drcoolrecovery.com)  you will never leave home without it again, especially when the weather forecast is hot, humid and muggy.

Simply wet the towel, wring it out, give it a fast snap, then place it around your neck, over your head, or anywhere else on your body for fast, cooling relief. We were amazed when we tried it on one of the year’s hottest and most humid days, and after placing it around our neck, within a matter of seconds, we didn’t feel so hot and irritable anymore. It comes in its own nifty plastic container, along with a waterproof silver bag for easy storage between uses. The Dr. Cool Chill Sports Towel can be ordered in a variety of colors.

You and the little ones in your life don’t have to wait until Christmas to enjoy Robin Raven’s very creative spin on the traditional “Night Before Christmas” poem,  “Santa’s  First Vegan Christmas” (www.veganpublishers.com).

The story’s focus is on a reindeer named Dana and her efforts to help introduce Santa Claus and many others to the practice of more kindness on the planet, especially when it comes to the treatment of animals. Kara Maria Schunk has done a brilliant job of illustrating Raven’s imaginative verses  with colorful and vibrant artwork that draws the reader in and makes the story being told even more memorable and enjoyable. This delightful book makes a great stocking stuffer, but it’s a story that can be read and re-read at any time of the year!

If you are going to indulge in the calories of cheeses and ice cream/frozen desserts, those calories should be more than the additives, artificial ingredients and chemicals that most store-bought products contain today.

Get inspired to create your very own colorful, delicious and inventive cheeses and ice creams, using recipes from Marie Laforet in the recently released “The Best Homemade Vegan Cheese & Ice Cream Recipes” (www.robertrose.ca). A Cashew Hummus Cheese Dip, Tofu Cheese With Two Peppers,  Peach Pie Ice Cream Pops and Coconut Mint Straciaetella are among the wide array of dairy-free delights offered in the pages of this gorgeously-illustrated cookbook. Although these recipes do require time and effort, most contain no more than 6 ingredients, easily obtainable at your local supermarket or natural foods store.

It’s not easy to disregard the little aches, pains and sprains that tend to pile up after being physically active enjoying  a variety of summer activities, from gardening to volleyball. But when the “ouchies” strike on your knees, elbows, ankles or calves, Dr. Cool Ice Compression Wraps (www.drcoolrecovery.com) come to the rescue!

The wrap we recently tested for knees, elbows and calf area measures 4″ wide by 50″ long. You simply run it under the cold water faucet, then freeze for 20 minutes, and wrap about the injured area, keeping the wrap in place for 15-20 minutes. The temporary relief you get feels SOOOOO good, and you can reapply the wrap after going through the wetting and freezing process several times throughout the day. We like the fact that this Dr. Cool Ice Compression Wrap gets fast results without pills or medication. It’s great to keep handy when you’ve overextended yourself and need the healing effects of ice without the bulk of ice cubes. The wrap comes in a wide array of colors, with other sizes available, so everyone in the family can have their own Dr. Cool Ice Compression Wrap.

There are still a few weeks left of summer dining on the outdoor patio, so why not make that environment as inviting and cozy as possible by adding candles from Goose Creek (www.GooseCreekCandle.com).

We were recently provided with samples of their large jar and wax melt candles for review and found them to be high quality products. Not only are the Goose Creek colors a perfect match for any decor scheme, the fragrances are clean, crisp and fresh and won’t overpower the area. These candles also burn very slowly and evenly, another point in their favor. And with the holiday season fast approaching, these candles make a great addition to your Christmas decorating as well as affordable gifts for anyone on your list.
