Two of the most popular ingredients in the world — wine and chocolate — enjoy a wonderful marriage in a product made in Holland called ChocoVine. (www.chocovine.com).

The concept of combining a quality French cabernet wine with dark chocolate and Dutch cream results in a wine variety that can be savored as a liquid dessert, poured over ice cream, or used in blended cocktails. We recently experienced the original chocolate variety as well as the delicious raspberry offering. A glass of ChocoVine make a lovely sweet treat at the end of the day, served chilled neat or on the rocks. A splash or two also makes a decadent topping for vanilla or coconut ice cream. ChocoVine is a must-have for anyone who loves fine wines and authentic tasting chocolate!

WOW – does it feel great to put away those winter boots and snow shovels for another season!

Why not celebrate the arrival of spring and warmer weather that’s perfect for entertaining by mixing up this “Transatlantic Fizz” cocktail, the brainchild of Cocktail Guru, Jonathan Pogash. It features one of our all-time favorite libations, Sandeman Porto.

In a cocktail shaker, muddle  a fresh strawberry  with fresh lime juice and almond syrup. Then add 2 ounces of the reserve port with an ounce of Avion Blanco tequila, adding crushed ice before shaking well. Strain over ice into a highball glass, adding the finishing touch of a layer of champagne. Add a stirstick and garnish with a fresh whole strawberry. Pogash reports this cocktail goes great with toasted Portuguese almonds.

The best  cocktail menus for holiday entertaining offer a blend of both sweet and savory snacks and confections. You can get both tastes in the same snack with Pretzel Perfection’s Holiday Clusters (www.pretzelperfection.com).

These tempting bite-sized morsels each contain just the right amount of crunch and chew and come in three varieties: Salted Caramel (our favorite), Peppermint and Eggnog. The packaging is also perfect to you to top off with a bow and use as a hostess gift. If you are a fan of pretzels, this line of gourmet pretzel-based snacks will quickly become a family favorite as well as a party tradition.

caliche

Caliche Puerto Rican Rum (www.calicherum.com)  is a versatile mixer to keep handy in your liquor cabinet as summer transitions into autumn.  Caliche is a blend of four aged rums and works equally well as a beverage on its own as it does as a mixer to create festive cocktails. This rum will easily carry you into the busy holiday entertaining season.

Caliche offers  rich and rewarding flavor when enjoyed on the rocks as a sipping rum , whether relaxing indoors in your library or outdoors on the patio savoring the last warm days of summer. But the delicate notes of pure vanilla and caramel in Caliche Puerto Rican Rum also make it the perfect white rum to use in blended drinks, everything from Pina Coladas and minty Mojitos to traditional rum and coke, rum screwdrivers and party punches.  We love that Caliche adds nice subtle flavors to cocktails without overpowering the other ingredients. And its handsome bottle is something you can proudly display when entertaining.

What we like best about these new Polar Seltzer flavors is their crisp taste and authenticity, ranging from cucumber melon and pina colada to pomegranate sangria, mint mojito and ginger lemonade. They taste delicious right out of the bottle, served neat or on the rocks or blend them with other juices and alcohol ingredients to create fun summer cocktails.

Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto (www.sandeman.eu) is perfect for sipping slowly on a snowy winter’s night. This is a rich libation that can be savored solo.  But now that spring has arrived and summer’s entertainment season is just around the corner, we keep  our bottle of Sandeman very handy on our bar because we’ve discovered it makes great mixed cocktails that are refreshing for warmer weather.

In addition to blending it with Scotch Whiskey, Blood Orange Juice and honey cucumber water to create a delightful carbonated Founders Fizz, Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto also is a key ingredient for Sangria, Margaritas, Cosmos and a bracing Sandeman Rush featuring well-chilled Sandeman shaken with Scotch and Kahlua, garnishedc with a cinnamon stick.
